Ideas that they realise in the form of branding, brand application, print based communications and creative and cost effective print management.

Some of the best ideas require the help of talented and creative friends. Revolting always look to work with the very best to provide exciting photography, video, audio, copy-writing and web & multimedia solutions.

“Not being able to do everything is no excuse for not doing everything you can.”

Revolting specialise in working with Educational, Arts, Charitable and Public Sector organisations. For these clients, as well as for most people in today’s climate, there is a great need to make every penny of their budget work for them. With this in mind, Revolting always look for creative ideas that give value for money at the same time as striving to minimise any environmental impact.

Revolting work with you, not for you. They get to know you and help you discover what it is you are trying to say. They then find the right idea to say it, an idea that will get you seen, heard and understood.

This was a large scale recruitment marketing campaign comprising of a wide range of different outcomes including brand guidelines, job advertisement templates, posters, brochures, exhibition materials and web banners.

We were then invited back three years later to build upon the work we had previously completed and create a whole new range of materials that reflected the changes in the organisation and the global recruitment marketplace.

As part of the Young People’s Alternative Guide to...

As part of the Young People’s Alternative Guide to Brownsea Island in Dorset, pupils from Ashdown Technology College wanted to work with an artist or creative agency to produce a digital installation on the island. The installation needed to connect the world as experienced by young people to Brownsea.

Brownsea island is a unique habitat with some rare and uncommon flora and fauna, this inspired Revolting to create a ‘Secret Safari’. Revolting carried out a thorough survey of the island to establish where mobile internet coverage was best so that the highest quantity of visitors could access the project. It then worked with pupils in workshops on the island and in the classroom to explore the ideas of habitat and natural selection and how a certain environment can shape the creatures that live there.

These ideas were refined by illustrator Phil ‘Biff’ Smith and the creatures’ individual stories were developed by award-winning writer Joanna Qunin working with the Poole pupils. Eventually, six new creatures were born. QR codes were then installed in each of the locations so that visitors could ‘capture’ the creatures on their phones.

The Safari now forms part of the Young People’s Alternative Guide to the island and will be used to promote the island to young people and increase visitor numbers. Revolting will monitor the success of the project by tracking the number of time QR codes are accessed. This project has also received a Lovie award from the The International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences

Revolting is the proud receipient of a European Lovie Award.

The Lovie Awards recognise the unique and resonant nature of the European Internet community. The awards are presented and judged by The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, who are a leading body of experts, business figures, luminaries, creative celebrities and other Internet professionals.

The awards recieved almost 700 entries from 20 European countries and Revolting won an award within the Education and Reference category for an interactive ‘Secret Safari’ on Brownsea Island which we produced for the National Trust.

The purpose of the project was to increase young people’s interest in Brownsea Island. To achieve this the National Trust wanted to create an alternative guide to the island. Using inspiration of the unique habitat of Brownsea, Revolting worked with pupils from a local school to create unique creatures that are captured by visitors scanning QR codes at hidden locations around the island.

To communicate the quality, craftsmanship and uniqueness of...

To communicate the quality, craftsmanship and uniqueness of their copper baths, William Holland required a sales brochure that would demonstrate all of this to potential buyers and suppliers.

Revolting understood that the design and detail of the brochure was central to ensuring that it would stand out in a competitive market place, as was the quality of the printing and paper stock.

To achieve this took the time and expertise of the team and our print supplier to ensure that all elements of the brochure would meet our clients expectations. This included identifying suitable print and binding methods, to create a truly high quality brochure which will be a invaluable communications and sales tool.

The new cards all feature a QR code to make it easier to store our contact details on a smart phone. Not only that, you can now have a miniature Revolting team stood on your desk, shelves or any other surface (we’ve already had a table-top bowling competition - Ross won!).

The photographs were taken by our friend Andy Whale (www.andywhale.com) and the cards were digitally printed and hand finished by Acanthus in Somerset.

We’re on the look out for talented local artists who want to be a part of the first Show & Tell Pop Up Shop.

Who?

If you’re a painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer, textile artist or are a whizz at any other creative trade, and you’re working in or around Dorset then you could be just what we’re looking for.

For many makers and artists, the place to collaborate, talk and sell stuff has increasingly been in a virtual, online world, through forums such as ‘Etsy’ and ‘Not For The High Street’.

Through Show & Tell, we want to bring this back into the real world so we can make friends, learn from each other and be inspired by those living and working around us. It’s our vision to put on a weekend exhibition where we can all show, share and have fun. If you would like to join in and be part of this then please read on.

When?

Our first event will take place On Friday 29th July to Sunday 31st July, and there’ll be different events during this weekend, including music, food, performance and exhibits.

Where?

We’re really lucky to have been lent an amazing property to bring you the Show & Tell Pop Up Shop. We’ve got a great venue: St Peter’s Hall, 6 Hinton Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2EN, where there’s plenty for space for everything we want to do.

This was formally a nightclub you may have known as ‘Crank’.

How?

If you’ve got work you’d like to show us & tell people about then please download and complete this form, and email it to info@TheShowAndTellPopUpShop.co.uk Once we’ve reviewed the submissions, we’ll be in touch with those who we’d like to join us this time round. We’ll be asking each artist to pay an admin fee of £20 but they’ll get to keep 100% of their sales.

To find out more visit the website: Show and Tell Pop Up Shop

International Baccalaureate came to us to create new sub brand...

International Baccalaureate came to us to create new sub brand for IB Connect, a new internal communication tool for staff to use to improve collaboration, communication and participation.

We also designed a promotional poster to advertise the new intranet to IB staff.

Wherigo is a GPS based activity created by the people who invented Geocaching that can be played outdoors . Wherigo is a mix between an adventure game and a Geocache search. The user takes a part in a story that takes advantage of information provided by the GPS telling the device where you are physically residing to trigger in-game events, such as reaching a virtual object or interacting with characters. Completing an adventure can require reaching different locations and solving puzzles.

Currently ‘official’ software needed to play Wherigo is only available for a small number of mobile platforms, specifically Windows Mobile phones and Garmin GPS devices. However there are unofficial apps freely available including ‘PiGo’ for the Apple iPhone and ‘Whereyougo’ for Android.

We have recently created a demonstration game in which the player has to help the ghost of a victorian girl find her long lost brother in the grounds of our local park. If you want to give it a go follow this link to see how you can get this game on your phone or GPS device. We can see Wherigo having huge potential for tourist attractions and branded outdoor games and activities.

Why not arrange a meeting with us to see how you can be part of the adventure.

We have recently been participating in the global treasure hunt that is Geocaching (see the video above for a quick explanation).

We decided to hide our own ‘Revolting’ Cache in the countryside near the studio. If you have a GPS enabled smartphone (iPhone or Android) you can download an App to help you locate our Geocache.

You can find the GPS coordinates for our Geocache here.

Experiments with this are all part of some work we are doing at the moment that involves location specific experiences untilising the GPS capabilities of the new wave of smart phones (see here for another recent project).

We would love to talk to you about how these new innovations can help spread your message.

Back in 2009, we worked on a pilot for an interactive ghost tour of our local town or Dorchester.

This was put on the backburner whilst we tried to work out an interesting way to engage the public with the idea of taking tours using their smart phones as a guide.

Since then we have been experimenting with QR codes. These are the strange black and white ‘static’ like symbols you may have seen on posters and ads more and more frequently.

These images can be used with a smart phone and a freely available downloadable app, so that people can take pictures of the QR code and be linked to a number of different types of online content.

With this in mind we have produced the sticker below which we have surreptitiously stuck at the start point of the tour, with a hope that people ‘in the know’ may happen upon it and take this spooky little tour.
As well as a cool thing to do, we are beginning to use these codes more and more in our work, we would love to find a creative way in which to spread your message using them. Get in touch.

From our initial research we distilled our ideas to three distinct concepts. These were based on the architectural features of the Hague’s skyline, the cities symbol, the stork, and a mixture of typography and photography.

These were presented to the client for initial feedback, who decided they wished to peruse a typographical route.

With these valuable comments we went back to the drawing board.

Tina is based in Washington DC, where she makes a wide range of zombie paper products for Books-A-Million, a major US bookstore, as well as selling them through her online store on Etsy (the internets marketplace for handmade goods).

She has delivered over 30,000 pieces in the last year, all made by hand in her living room production line.

Having collaborated on a couple of projects in the past, Tina approached us with the idea to redesign her entire range and help develop some new ones. The first wave of these have already been picked up by Books-A-Million, with more to follow soon.

Click on a product below to get your hands on a Yetis Love Spaghetti fridge magnet, or Obama kicking some zombie ass on a neat little bookmark.

All illustrations created in house by Revolting, apart from Obama, drawn by Chris Piers.

It was a very exciting afternoon, with some great input from a young person who is currently taking part in one of their schemes.

Part of this project comprised of the children having to devise a logo for their park and the rides. Ross was on hand to give them an insight on what it is to be a graphic designer, and what to be thinking about when creating a brand.

It was an excellent afternoon, made extra special by the fact it seemed to be fancy dress day, which meant Ross was soon surrounded by a range of incredibly enthusiastic little Jedi’s, Princesses and Wizards.

Project Hero
“The Stan Lee Foundation and Todd McFarlane...

Project Hero

“The Stan Lee Foundation and Todd McFarlane invite comics artists to create a superhero character that will excite a global audience. What can your superhero do? What are your superhero’s special powers? How can they help the world?”

This is the result of a day long workshop headed up by Revolting Art + Design, in collaboration with Seven Spring Studios (photography) and Digibug (web design and model). The day started off with a brainstorming session over a full english at our current favourite cafe down by the beach. We then split up with different missions, ranging from buying tights to fit a strapping young gent and making a bandolier from hastily sourced pantone pens, to constructing a cape made from Design Week back issues.

We recorded the whole day on twitter under the hashtag #projecthero, which provided us with a lot of encouragement from our various followers on the net.

See our microsite for more information and images of The Designer (more content will follow in the next few days). www.wearerevolting.co.uk/projecthero
